SEATTLE: CEO of famous social networking website (Facebook), Mark Zuckerberg and his wife Priscilla Chan were the most generous couples in year 2013, with a donation of $18 million shares of Facebook stock, valued at more than $970 million, to a Silicon valley non profit in the month of December.
According to report of The Chronicle of Philanthropy Mark Zukerberg donation was one of the largest charitable gift which was on the public record in year 2013 and also put the Mark Zuckerberg and his wife Priscilla Chan at the top of magazine's annual list of 50 'Most Generous Americans in 2013'
Last year top 50 contributors made donations of total $7.7 billion and pledges of $2.9 billion.
Editor Of The Chronicle says the most significant from the list was large amount of money coming from living donors, which totaled about the amount which is same as the two previous years combined.
Chronicle Editor Stacy Palmer Said: "It is a sure sign that people are getting a lot less cautions and economy is getting better".
Some of other nation donors do not appear on the 2013 list, not only they did not participate in charity work but their donations were counted as pledges in the year 2013.
For Example Co-Founder of Microsoft Bill Gates and his wife Melinda Gates gave their foundation of about $181.3 million last year, but both were paying off a pledge of about $ 3.3 billion they made in the year 2004.Berkshire Hathaway and Founder of Cable News Network (CNN) Ted Turner also made large gifts towards previous pledges.
It took total gifts of atleast $37.5 million to make the list this year.42 of the 50 made gifts of about $50 million or more.
30 made big gifts to different college and universities, Chronicle Editor Stacy Palmer also noted that most gifts of college went to research and science this year, not to buildings, as in previous years.
At Number 3rd Rank was Chairman of Nike Philip Knight and his wife Penelope, of Portland, Oregon who made challenge of about $500 grant to one of the famous cancer research university (Oregon Health and Science University Founder of Cancer research).
At Number 4th Rank was former New York Mayor and philanthropist Michael Bloomberg, who made gifts of about total $452 million in 2013 to environment, arts, public health, education and other causes.
Couples or 19 people on the list have signed the Giving Pledge, started by Warren Buffett and Bill Gates in the year 2010. More than that 120 of families and world's wealthiest individuals have pledge to give atleast half of their wealth to charity.
Although most of the people which are in the list were prominent wealthiest people who have given generously in the past. Chronicle Editor Stacy Palmer also said few were surprises like a well-known seattle lawyer Jack MacDonald who gave around $139 million to 3 non-profits upon his death.
